Greetings!

Hello, Everyone!

It's been quite a while since our last post was made--thank you for being so patient! :)
The ASL/Deaf Culture Club of 2015-2016 has a busy, adventurous, fun and rewarding year ahead of us! In fact, here is a re-cap of a few of the things the club has done already--pictures to be added, soon!

Weekly Club Meetings:

The ASL/Deaf Culture Club meets every Wednesday in Science 3312 from 6:00-7:00. Every week, we discuss future events that the club plans to host, work hard to make those plans and future events happen, learn signs together, and get to know each other! We have a very hard-working, fun and motivated group--we're excited to see what the rest of the year will hold for us as a club!

CAPS

CAPS, Children and Parents Signing, are free classes put on by ASL interns under direct supervision of professors Monica and Katie Marciniak.  The ASL/Deaf Culture Club takes part in helping manage lessons put on by interns.  The interns create one lesson that is split into two types of structures. One is targeted for children--traditional structure and play interaction are key parts to these lessons. Another is targeted for adults--select vocabulary and sentence structures are taught. The club and other ASL students help CAPS by encouraging children and parents to sign and by being awesome language models!

Club Bonding: Bonfire!

Our first club bonding event was filled with 'smores, cinnamon and sugar bread fire-roasted on a stick, music, some signing, stories and fun! We are looking forward to our next club bonding time--soon to be determined!

Halloween Carnival

Every year, our club hosts the Halloween Carnival! It's a huge hit and this year's Halloween Carnival which took place October 29th, was a blast! Club members worked hard to organize games that incorporated signing, make posters and advertise for the event, gather material for the Halloween Carnival, as well as learning some signs! It was a fun night filled with Halloween costumes, cupcakes, popcorn, juice, signing games and some awesome ASL interaction!

What's our next Event?
Our club is excited to share with you that Matt Hamill, "The Hammer," will be joining us Friday the 13th--that's six days from now! Matt is a Deaf wrestler who is a NCAA Three Time Wrestling Champion  and a Two Time Freestyle wrestler!
