CAPS
Hello Everyone,
CAPS (Children and Parents Signing) is back!
The College of St. Scholastica’s American Sign Language and Deaf Culture Club is excited to invite families with Deaf and Hard of Hearing children to join us twice each month to learn American Sign Language (no ASL knowledge is necessary and all ages are welcome)! These classes are free to families!
Each month we will teach Deaf and Hard of Hearing children along with their families how to sign selected vocabulary and basic sentence structure. We encourage you to invite important people in your children’s life including siblings, friends, relatives and neighbors to this fun filled and interactive evening. This is a great evening of learning and exploring this incredible language!

Each month we will have a theme and will provide a lesson that you can incorporate into your daily lives. This year we have a great group of interns that will teach the lessons under direct supervision of Monica Marciniak (American Sign Language and Deaf Culture Instructor) and Katie Marciniak (Speech Language Pathologist). These interns are very excited to work with you and your family. The ASL and Deaf Culture club will also be there to provide language learning support and supervise the children.

Our lesson plans are taught through traditional structure and play interaction. Parents will be provided with a structured lesson in American Sign Language while the children will be learning American Sign Language near by in a supervised, fun and interactive environment. During the last half hour children and their families will come together to do a craft or play a game using their new ASL skills! Supervisors and club members will act as language models to help model ASL language usage.
Want to join us?
Where: The College of St. Scholastica, 4115 Tower Hall
When: Oct. 6 & 20 5:30-7:00
            Nov. 3 & 17 5:30-7:00
            Dec. 1 & 15 5:30-7:00
If you are interested in attending please RSVP Monica at mmarciniak@css.edu so we know how many supplies to make and order.
We understand the importance of peer relationships. Friends are always welcome and encouraged to attend. Feel free to spread the word!
We look forward to seeing your family!
